Event DescriptionThe Great Pumpkin Race is a fun run designed not only as a fund raiser for Northwest Children's Home and Syringa House, but also as a thank you to the community of Nampa Idaho for their big hearts and generous help during the rest of the year. The Great Pumpkin Race is actually several events in one. We have the following activities:
Although many of the Race participants are serious competitive entrants, we
have designed this Race so that families or other types of teams can run or
walk and just have fun. In this spirit, this event draws a lot of community
participation. The Great Pumpkin Race is starting to attract participants from around the country. Of course, some of them just happen to be here visiting friends or relatives, but a few came just because they have heard that the Great Pumpkin Race was so much fun! Several of our local civic organizations, other non-profit organizations and various departments from the City of Nampa Idaho help in various aspects of the Great Pumpkin Race. The volunteer staff alone is around 200 people. Race DescriptionThe Great Pumpkin Race is actually several events. The 5k includes a 5k run and a 5k walk. The 1 mile includes a 1 mile run and a 1 mile walk. In either race, you may choose to run or walk. If you elect to walk, you must walk the entire race or be disqualified. If you elect to run, you may run and/or walk the race as you please.
The one mile race is held entirely within Lakeview park. The course is relatively flat, and designed so parents can have visual supervision of their kids for most of the 1 mile run. The 5k race runs through nearby Nampa neighborhoods and finishes up using the 1 mile run course in the park. It is relatively flat and most of the course is concrete or pavement. Of course, the question comes up, "how many miles is 5k?" A 5k is 3.1 miles. The course is well marked and we have road guards stationed at appropriate locations. Maps are available at the links below.
